I’m a Student Again!

Back in October I decided it was time to go back to school. I LOVE being a student and had missed it a lot since graduating from the University of Arizona in 2010. The itch to go back was strong through those 5 years, but I just didn’t know what to do, what to focus on, or how to go about it.

And then I watched a webinar and found the perfect thing. In fact, I saw this program months before but just wasn’t ready for it. But by the time October came around I knew it was exactly what I needed and I bit the bullet.

I enrolled in the International Academy for Wedding Photographers taught by some of leading photographers in the industry right now.

They only accept a limited number of students at a time, so I was excited to get in when I did!

I was excited when I enrolled, and then got scared. My “homework” was going to be seen by these uber professional photographers. My fellow students seemed to all be successful photographers already. I felt like a Kindergartener walking the halls with college students. I got through the videos for my first module and then froze. What was I doing?!

It took me 3 more months to get the guts up to jump in again. I made the goal to finish my first class by Ione’s due date and decided to hit this as hard as I could. I knew it’d make me a better photographer and it would make my business stronger, but I was letting fear and intimidation get the better of me. No more! I wanted to be better. I still do.

My first class covered the business aspect of photography, which was perfect! I love the creative process, I’m not so fond of the business process. So much to learn and do! But the class helped me to get a business plan written up, processes figured out, and so much more. And, I finished before Ione’s due date (but after she was born, bahaha).

The next class scared me even more. But I was determined not to let fear get the better of me. Other classmates had said that this class scared them and was hard. Some got stuck half way and haven’t finished it. Which made me even more determined to push my way though. It’s one I’ve needed for a long time! Branding. By THE Katelyn James. I was scared but so so so excited. This lady is queen at branding!

Today I’m half way through her course. And it is hard. But, I am LOVING it! So much to learn and do, but she is helping me hone in on my style and to get it all refined. I’ve never been able to put in words my style before, but with this course it’s all fitting together. This last module was a huge one about the website design and About Me page. It’s taken me weeks of work! Literally! It’s been all I could think about lately.

But, after 3 weeks of work, I finally have something I really love. The site is beginning to represent me, and not just be a generic photography site. It’s starting to have a style. It’s starting to be fun!

I am so thankful that I signed up for The Academy. It truly has been a game changer for me already, and I’m only 1 1/2 classes in. So so SO much more to learn, and I’m excited. If you’re looking at something that you know will help you and be a game changer in your life, but you’re scared…jump! Do it! We can’t grow without a few growing pains!

Want to see my favorite part of the website revamp? Check out the “My Favorites” page in the About Me section! This was so fun to plan and put together!

I don't know if it is the same on a desk top, but on my kindle the next arrow on the favorites slide show blocks half the words. Might want to check that…

On a desktop it is fine. I'm having issues today getting the mobile site to work right. Of course it did last night when I finalized things, but now there are issues.
