FAQ: What time of day is best for Engagement Photos?

There is a time of day when the light softens, the shadows are less harsh, and everything feels like it’s glowing. In fact skin looks more alive, the birds fly in formation, and the earth sings. Okay, maybe not the last two. But really, there is a magic time every day that gives the most amazing light. That is when I like to shoot!

As much as possible, I love shooting in the hour just before sunset, and the 15-20 minutes after sunset. It is absolutely gorgeous! This Golden Hour produces such beautiful colors and light, and here in Arizona in the three months that is pretending to be winter it is also slightly less hot!

Can’t make the evening Golden Hour work? Don’t worry, there’s a runner up! Just go opposite. The 15 minutes leading up to sunrise and the hour following has beautiful soft light as well!

I have found that sunrise light gets harsher faster, and it is slightly less golden, but it has it’s own soft magic. In the summer though, a sunrise session is the way to go before the earth starts to sizzle!

(PS…only one of these photos was not taken in Arizona! This state has the most amazing variety of landscapes!! 10 points to Gryffindor if you can guess the non-Arizona shot!)
