The hardest part about moving from Winslow this summer was moving farther away from Andrew and Jackie. Even though we’re only 20 minutes father away, it feels like so much more. We can’t just walk around the block and go find them! Jackie and Andrew have saved our bacon more times than we care to admit. From helping us move in to Winslow, to taking Darrow in the middle of the night when I went into early labor with Ione, to hauling all our stuff over to our new place in the summer, to dinners, visiting, and babysitting, these guys have shown us so much love and friendship, and we feel incredibly grateful for them. And forever in their debt!
While discussing locations, we talked over various options that would give us an open feel. The river bed was my first thought and I made plans and started gathering ideas for that. And then it rained and poured, and for once we actually had a river in the bed and not a trickle. So since we didn’t really care to go swimming in mud for pictures we came up with another plan: The Little Painted Desert!
It is our opinion, and theirs, that the Little Painted Desert is way more spectacular and pretty than the “real” Painted Desert. You drive up, and it doesn’t look like anything is there, and then suddenly the ground drops out, the desert is there below you stretching out for miles. It’s jaw dropping every single time.
After the pictures we all had plans to do dinner together and to let the boys play, so Cameron and the kids tagged along during pictures. After getting a few shots of Andrew and Jackie I said, “Alright boys! Run on over here and plop down for me!” And the boys came running. All of them. Darrow adores these three boys, and they are so good to him. So we snagged a shot of the four of them before pulling Darrow out to get the brothers.
We didn’t hike down very far into the desert (that’s on my bucket list though!), but the little ways we did go down was awesome! It did show me just how out of shape I am though hiking back out of there! These hills are steep!!
Andrew hates picture time, but is so good to just get in and do it for Jackie. He channels his awkward feelings into funny comments and good humor and gets Jackie laughing every time, and it is so cute! They are so fun and fabulous together!
