What do you get when you combine a dynamic and beautiful couple, an amazing historic home, gorgeous Sonoran desert winter weather, 1920’s dresses, and amazing music? One heck of a wedding! Randi and Porter were married on Saturday at the Z Mansion in downtown Tucson, AZ and it couldn’t have been a more perfect day for a wedding. 70 degree weather in January? Yes please!!
These two have known each other from early high school days and have weathered so many different adventures together from scuba diving, to New York fashion week, to crazy health issues, to jobs, school, and on stage fitness competitions. Randi and Porter got engaged in June, just days before her sister’s beautiful Mesa, AZ wedding. Getting to cover both sisters’ weddings has been amazing and sweet. Each wedding was so completely perfect for each of them!
Back in October I met up with Porter and Randi for their gorgeous Arizona Fall engagement session in Flagstaff, AZ. They were amazing in front of the camera then, I knew their wedding would be no different. Randi and Porter are incredibly dynamic and fun. The whole room is filled with the most amazing energy when they walk in! That energy filled their entire wedding, from start to finish. Even with that fun energizing mood, this was still one of the most relaxed, at ease weddings I’ve been to! No crazy nerves, no freak outs, no rushing around. Just calm, collected, excited joy. They were ready!
The day started in the bridal room of the Z Mansion. Slowly one by one people trickled in, and more and more details arrived to come together to make up their day. The Z Mansion was the perfect place for this wedding! This beautiful home gave just the right look to every part of the wedding! While Randi and her girls got ready upstairs, the family set up the decor and equipment out on the patio, and the groomsmen hung out in the man cave cellar. It was so fun to watch everyone interact and see the excitement grow!
Randi is a crazy talented cosmetologist, along with two of her bridesmaids. It was fun to watch them help all the girls get ready for the wedding! They were such a fun and gorgeous group!
Randi’s details were all so perfect for her 1920’s theme and for her elegant style! Her handmade in Spain dress, the gorgeous ’20’s headpiece, the jewelry, it was all spot on!
This art deco ring belonged to Randi’s great-grandmother and was worn in the 20’s. Such a sweet and perfect touch to her day!
As Porter works with chemicals each day for work, his wedding band is made of silicone! How awesome is that?! I love that the found something to work for their situation so he can still wear it.
These guys were a hoot all day. As Porter’s brothers and cousin’s, they’ve all known Porter about as long and as well as anyone there. The stories that started coming out had us all laughing! They were great!
The day wouldn’t have been the same without Anh, half of the team at West End Photos and my amazing PhotograFriend. She and I met at the Come Together Event by Amy & Jordan and Katelyn James in 2015, but this was our first chance to shoot together. She handed most of the groomsmen shots and got them telling such great stories of past shenanigans.
Randi’s mother, LaShelle, did all the centerpieces (painting the bottles, arranging the flowers, all of it!) as well as the boutonnieres, and did the most amazing job! They were all stunning and absolutely perfect!
After the groomsmen photos and the general setup and decor photos, it started to come down to Go Time, and the bridal room kicked into high gear.
Randi wore the same strand of pearls that Taylor wore at her wedding, and that LaShelle had received as a sweet anniversary gift from her husband Brad years before. It’s always so fun and sweet to see bride’s add these sentimental and family touches and details into their day!
And oh you guys, the bridesmaids! They were amazing! Each got to pick their own dress and they all knocked it out of the ball park! Aren’t they gorgeous?!
And after getting this shot at Taylor’s wedding…
…we had to get a follow up shot at Randi’s wedding!
One evening before the wedding the Bridesmaids all got together for a craft night to make their bouquets. How cool is that?! They each had coordinating bouquets, but each had their own touch and spin on them. I LOVE that idea! Each bouquet looked so good!
And finally it was time for the First Look. We shooed everyone out of the courtyard (which is always sad for some of the guests, but these First Look moments are meant to be just for the Bride and Groom, as a moment to breathe, take it all in, and be as just them as it gets on a wedding day). The energy and excitement levels shot up exponentially right here.
And cue the tears! They were adorable!
Randi’s Daddy came in just then and got his first look of his baby girl, and it was such a sweet moment!
And then in the last bit of the Arizona glow of sunset, portrait time began!
If you ever need someone to test light with, grab the flower girl for a spin of her dress. She was pretty happy to oblige. 🙂
Walking in to soft ’20’s music, the bridal party set the perfect tone for the wedding. This was going to be good, and everyone felt it!
If you’ve been with me here on the blog since February and June, you may be thinking the officiant looks familiar. That’s Marcus! One of my 2016 Grooms, and Taylor’s husband! How cool is that?!
I’m normally pretty stable emotionally on wedding days, but this one had me all over the place! Laughing, grinning, and crying. I don’t cry! (Well, not in public at least!) When Reed started walking his girl up the aisle I definitely got misty. It was the sweetest moment!
Randi’s first dance with her dad was beautiful! It’s always a tender moment to watch and had a few people around the courtyard in tears!
And then it was their turn. They could have been the only people there for all they knew, they were so keyed into each other in the sweetest way. The joy on their faces was unmistakable.
Every reception Reed does, he has a traditional dance that I LOVE. LOVE LOVE LOVE! He starts with every married couple present on the dance floor, which is neat in and of itself. But then the fun begins. Starting with “If you’ve been married less than six hours, go sit down!” and everyone laughs as the Bride and Groom make their way back to their seats.
From there he works his way up. Six months or less. Another couple down. A year or less. Two more couples down. 5 years. 10 year. 20 years. And up he goes through the years and more and more couples sit down until he gets to the last couple, finding the longest married couple present. Finally it was down to this couple. Reed called out 50 years. They kept dancing. 55 years. They kept dancing. 60 years. They kept dancing!! The room was electric at this point (and I was crying…every time he does this tradition, I cry). This sweet couple are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary this year!! How amazing is that?!
Randi had her dream cake at the wedding, and it was as tasty as it is beautiful! With a top tier of Red Velvet, a middle tier of Chocolate, and a bottom tier of Vanilla, this cake was perfect! So moist and yummy!!
Musical talent runs through Randi’s family like crazy! LaShelle, Randi’s Mom, sang a gorgeous song while everyone danced and blew us all away!
LaShelle started singing and I knew I had to find Brad, her husband. His look as he watched his sweetheart says it all!
Randi and Porter, you two are an amazing couple! I love your vibrancy, your sweetness, and your love of life! Thank you so much for inviting me into such an amazing day. I just want to go back and keep dancing the night away!
