John and Lorraine’s Gila Valley Wedding

John and Lorraine got married on a GORGEOUS day at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Safford, AZ. The day really could not have been prettier. The temperatures were a little warm, but with the slight breeze, it wasn’t overly hot at all. Unless you went barefoot on the church pavers. Then it was hot. Lesson learned…don’t wear new shoes to shoot a wedding in. With decor rented from a past Prickly Pear VIP (my name for all my bride and grooms!), DIY details made by the family, a yummy cake by Cakes with TLC (I always love when she’s on the vendor lineup!!), and Lorraine’s drop-dead gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress, this wedding was to die for!

When I got to Lorraine’s parent’s home, where she was getting ready with her bridesmaids, I couldn’t believe how calm and organized everything was! They had all the details ready for me laid out on the pool table and everyone was happily chatting and getting ready. It was such a sweet atmosphere. I had fun with the details and was chugging through when it came time for the dress. Pam, Lorraine’s mom, brought it out and I did a little happy dance and I’m pretty sure I squeaked a little. Sweetheart neckline, beaded bodice, layers of tulle for dayssss…it’s gorgeous. Finding somewhere to hang it proved a little tricky, but their family dog finally obliged and gave up his spot on the front porch so we could hang it on the trellis. I thought the dress was gorgeous just on the hanger, but holy cow, wait until you see it on her. And then wait until she spins!!

Their ceremony was beautiful and everyone was smiles. I loved getting to see John and his best man as Lorraine came up the aisle. John was in awe! I loved all the little kids too, they were so sweet. And the sign they made for their son was adorable!

Following the ceremony we got to spend a good chunk of time doing picture outside the church. The lawn and courtyard they have were the perfect spots! At one point in time I was setting up a shot and explain what I wanted them to do and Erin, my good friend and second shooter, told them that they may feel silly but if they just trusted me that these would turn out amazing. My heart did happy leaps when Lorraine laughed and said, “Oh we trust her! We know she’s got this!” Seriously, if you ever want to make your photographer giddy, just tell them (and mean it of course!) that you trust them completely! These two are so easy in front of the camera. I love their quiet yet strong chemistry, their smiles, and how they flow together. I could have these two in front of my camera all day long and never get tired of it!

The reception and dinner were so fun and heartfelt. John and Lorraine’s family and wedding party were all so friendly and helpful. Many of them came over to make sure we had a plate of food for dinner and that we had plenty of water. They were all so kind and made me feel like one of the family. It was so fun to see the love they all have for each other and for John and Lorraine especially! I loved getting to meet John and Lorraine’s son Liam and John’s daughter Monique! Liam is ADORABLE and Monique is a beauty!

I couldn’t wait to get home and dive into these photos. It was all such a beautiful and fun day!

I absolutely love working with the creative team at weddings, and especially love teaming up with other photographers to shoot the wedding. Erin with Sunshine Picture Project has shot a good handful of weddings with me now and I absolutely LOVE working with her. We always end the night trying to figure out how to shoot together more often. She anticipates my moves, has an amazing creative eye, is able to jump in for me at the reception when my bladder suddenly is in rebellion, and is such a sweet, happy, and calm presence at the weddings. Hers and my photos are mixed in here together and I love how they compliment each other. But I did want to give her a shout out especially for these two shots. She NAILED them!!

Love those pastels! What a beautiful wedding. Those detail shots are amazing. My favorite image is of the groom and the best man when she is walking down the aisle. Loved them all.
