Katelyn James Workshop: Backyard Garden Wedding Styled Shoot

What do you get when you combine Katelyn James, a team of AMAZING Virginia vendors, the cutest couple ever, and unruly weather? Pure awesome-sauce and amazing education!! This Backyard Garden Style Wedding styled shoot was right up my alley!

A little while back I wrote about my experience at The Workshop Experience with Katelyn James and got to show you the behind the scenes and general happenings, but we weren’t cleared yet as Katelyn was waiting for the photos to be published. Recently we got the all clear that we could share our photos from the Styled Shoot portion, and I’m so excited to get to share not only the photos, but the experience that went with it!

How excited? Two nights ago I dreamt I was back in Virginia hanging out with Katelyn James and all my Workshop friends. Waking up was a little sad to realize I wasn’t there! But getting to go through these photos helps me relive this amazing experience all over again!

If you remember from the Behind the Scenes post, it rained the entire Workshop. For this AZ girl, it was pretty mesmerizing! But it also meant that the plans to shoot outside for the styled shoot had to be changed some, and we were out in the “backyard” for just a small portion. But the whole theme still came off amazing! Michael kept an eye on the radar and when he saw a no-rain pocket coming straight over the house, they immediately changed up the schedule and we all ran outside.

While it would have been fun to have more outdoor time, and better conditions, I loved getting this “real life” experience! Not every wedding day has ideal weather. Katelyn had never met with or worked with this couple before, so we got to see her posing methods in work full force! Added to that, to protect the dress from the wet grass Haley, the bride model, stood on a shower curtain, so they couldn’t move much. And yet in the limited time we were out, we were able to get a great variety of shots!  I learned so much!

After about 7 minutes the rain started back in, so everyone retreated to the porch to keep going with a few more portraits before heading inside.

Haley had the cutest laugh! I can still hear it when I look at these photos. She was so cute and so happy to be there! And her sweetheart just kept looking at her in awe. They were adorable!

You know one of my biggest struggles with this shoot? All the green!! This AZ girl is definitely not used to shooting in so much green! It makes such a big difference with white balance and editing!

While we were “in class” and outside shooting, the creative team transformed Katelyn and Michaels Keeping Room into the more gorgeous wedding table! I couldn’t believe the florals!!

There is just something about a white cake with real flowers that gets my heart doing happy dances every single time!

This was the first time I had ever been able to photograph a full wedding invitation suite, and to get to have this one be the first was AMAZING! Brides, I know some amazing stationers…if you want something custom and beautiful like this, let me know! I can refer you to some talented vendors who will take great care of you!

I loved everything about this shoot. It was very literally a dream come true. I was there shooting with Katelyn James, at her home, with 16 other new friends, and the elegant garden style of the shoot made my heart do happy dances all over the place!

Katelyn, thank you again for such a life changing experience. I still can’t believe I got to go. It was everything I dreamed and so much more. Thank you, THANK YOU from every corner of my heart!

And finally, a HUGE thank you to all the sponsors who made this even more wonderful for all of us!
