I do “Meet Marquette” posts on Instagram quite often, but rarely do them here on the blog, and I think today is a good day to change that! And why not break the Meet Marquette Blog silence with a fun challenge from my friend Dedra, of Dedra Davis Writes.
Dedra is a writer from Waco, Texas who writes about life, love, and laughter, interspersed with weenie dogs, DIY, and things out and about in Waco! She and I “met” through Jenna Kutcher’s Instagram Lab course and I have loved following her and learning from her! You can get to know her in her Blue Sky Tag Challenge Post!
I was excited to get to be a part of the Tag Challenge, and anxiously awaited my questions from Dedra! I knew she would come up with great ones, and I wasn’t disappointed! Some of them really made me stop and think hard!
How long have you been blogging?
I have actually been blogging since September 11, 2007. I started blogging when I first started in on this photography journey, and I’ve gone through many different stages. It was a place to host my photography hobby at first, but then quickly my crafting adventures joined in. Over the years I have started or written for eight different blogs (craft blogs, mommy blogs, a family recipe blog, Pinstrosity-a Pinterest fails blog, photography, spiritual, etc.).
Where do you blog/write most often?
Lately I blog from the kitchen table! The office doesn’t get much air and it just got too hot, so I moved my computer out to the table! When I worked off my laptop I would blog from the couch, and it was marvelous!
What have you learned about yourself since you began blogging?
This was definitely the hardest question of all the ones I was given! Since I’ve been blogging for almost 10 years now, I’ve seen a lot change, and a lot happen in my life. I’ve used blogging as a journal, as a scrapbook, as a business, and as therapy. I’ve learned so many lessons since I started blogging. I’ve learned to be more kind with words. Words have so much power, and even with good intentions, harsh words aren’t always the best option. I’ve learned the good that supportive words can do. Seeing how others have built me up, and being able to help buoy others up as well is amazing. I think it was through blogging that I realized how much I want to be of help to people. I want my words to have meaning. There is so much hurt and anger in the world, and everyday it seems to grow. Blogging helped me realize that I want to be a voice for good. I want to be a voice that comforts, encourages, and lifts people up.
Where would you like to live if you had nothing stopping you?
If nothing stopped me, I would convince mine and Cameron’s families to all move together to the foothills of some mountain, next to a good perennial stream. Just somewhere where we could all live, have our gardens, raise the sheep, and let the kids all run around!

And apparently with both families we’re out of date as each side has three adorable little girls to add in! Want something to blow your mind though…two of the little girls would be the same in each photo. When sisters marry brothers, that’s what happens!
Where is your dream spot to write?
The tub! But I haven’t been brave enough to try that yet. I KNOW I would drop my laptop in the tub water!
Tell your readers why you want them to read your words?
There is the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words, and while I believe that, I also believe that when you know the story behind the photos it makes them that much stronger. Every photo has a story because every couple has a story. I love telling stories and getting the background of a photo in!
Where is your favorite city, in your own state, that is not where you live now?
This is a hard one! I think I’d have to say Paradise, AZ. It’s a small little mountain town in Southeastern Arizona. My Grandpa’s ranch was near there, and it is also right near where Cameron and I honeymooned 11 years ago!
Tell me a quote you wish you had written?
What goal have you met in 2017?
As of today I have actually completed 39 goals from my 101 Things in 2017 List! Some of the finished items are “Go to the Grand Canyon,” “Potty Train Darrow,” and “Go on an out of town date with Cameron.”
What is your favorite blog to read?
I love reading Katelyn James’ blog! I have followed KJ for a few years now and I can’t get enough! I love her posts from weddings, the photos are always gorgeous and I love the stories. I really appreciate and have learned so much from her educational blog posts. She always helps me feel hopeful! And I always get a kick out of her personal posts as well!
What is your favorite social media?
I really love Jenna Kutcher’s Instagram! She has fabulous posts, shows who she is and what she loves, has so many tips for small business owners, and is just so encouraging and real!
To my readers, thank you so much for coming here each week! I appreciate it beyond words (and if you’ve been here a while you know I can get wordy sometimes)! If you want some good reading and to see some great content, click the links below to meet some of my friends. You will be happy you did!
To my blogger friends, I’m breaking rules a little. Because thankfully there’s not a blogging police force! I wasn’t sure exactly who to tag (and to be honest, I don’t know that I read 11 different blogs in a week…some weeks yes, but not always). So I am leaving this as an open tag! I’d love to read about you and get to know you, but if you don’t want to participate, I understand completely! The Blue Sky Tag Challenge not only is a fun prompt for a get to know you post, but through the links in the various blog posts it helps boost SEO as well! Win-win! If you want to participate, paste the link of your blog post in my comments when you publish yours and I’ll add your blog here and link to it! My readers will hopefully read each of yours, too! Rules are below in orange (because I just can’t have enough orange in my life). Thanks again, Dedra!

Blue Sky Tag bloggers, here are the simple rules:
- How did you start blogging?
- What is your favorite topic to blog about?
- If you could make money doing any hobby, what would it be?
- What is the biggest thing you have learned in 2017 so far?
- If your brain were a color, what color would it be?
- Looking around the room you’re in, if you could only keep 3 objects (people and pets not included…that’s a given), what would you keep?
- What living person has had the most positive influence on your life?
- What is one of your favorite blogs to check out?
- What is your favorite flavor of pie?
- What is one goal you hope to achieve before 2018 hits?
- If you took yourself out on a date to lunch by yourself, where would you go, what would you eat, and what would you be reading/doing?
Now, have fun!! Don’t forget to put your link in my comments so I can read your post when you publish and add your link in here in the blog post! And, thanks again, friends!
