As soon as we learned we were moving to Payson, I started looking on Instagram for photographers in the area. I found a few, but I was drawn to Mikaela and her work. Not only is she a talented photographer, but she also sounded genuine, sweet, and fun. I started interacting with her on Instagram and found we had more to connect over! Same church, same number of kids (and boy first, then girl), some similar people we know. I couldn’t wait to meet her!
She was so sweet from the very beginning and made sure I knew when and where the playgroup meets and introduced me to the other Payson moms that were there. They invited us over for dinner, and this is when the connections really took off! Come to find out that Dallin, her husband and I have the same great-great-grandfather! And he and I both went to Eastern Arizona College and were in choir…him leaving the semester before I go there. During our visit with them someone mentioned Albuquerque and before I could catch myself I sang “Ah-ah-ah-ahl-buquerque!” Weird Al style. Mikaela cracked up…she totally knew that one! We quote the same movies, both were homeschooled and kicked high school out to go to the community college, and have husbands that cook. It’s the best!
One of my favorite things to do when we move to a new area (and hopefully this is the last move for a long time! We’re planning on that at least!), is to find a couple to take out to our new area and do a shoot to get to know them and the landscape. I knew Mikaela and Dallin were the ones I wanted to invite out here in Payson; this has been a crazy roller coaster year for them with a new baby, thyroid cancer, and upcoming radiation treatments, and they’ve been so good and sweet to us from day one. They graciously agreed to go adventuring with me, and I’m so glad they did! We had a great time! They are so cute, and so good together. And it made my whole day when I asked him to whisper in Mikaela’s ear and he chose Nacho Libre quotes!
Her hair in that golden evening light was phenomenal! It’s always so pretty anyway, but it really was jaw dropping that evening!
And then…I found a Prickly Pear, with one lone fruit, perfectly ripe, and a bush of white flowers. It was like it was there just for me! I couldn’t not take photos there on it. It was the perfect setting for Mikaela’s awesome ring set! I LOVE her bands!
It’s like that one lone Prickly Pear Fruit was there waiting for Mikaela’s ring. the top was perfect!
The smoke from the fires in California and the Northwest has finally reached Arizona. If we’re getting haze here I can’t begin to imagine just how bad it is there near the fires. So crazy!
Dallin and Mikaela, thank you again so much for coming out and spending the evening with me! I loved it all! We are so thankful for the sweet friendship you have shown to us, and for welcoming us here to Payson. We can’t wait for more adventures!
