Matt and Josie’s Gila Valley Engagement Session

I met Josie while she was in high school. She was spunky, hard working, and always had a happy hello when she saw me. The day of her senior photos it was cold, drizzly, and muddy, and she just jumped in and we had a ball together! So the day before Matt and Josie’s Gila Valley Engagement Session when it was blustery and cold, Josie kept telling Matt, “Don’t worry! Marquette will work her magic!”

Monday was chilly still but thankfully the wind was gone and we were left with some high clouds and snow on the mountain top! Such a beautiful backdrop for engagement photos. We all met up at one of my favorite portrait locations in the Gila Valley and jumped into pictures.

Josie and Matt met when they were in highschool. Both are from small towns and met at a “big” joint youth dance for church. At least it felt big to us! When you combine a few small towns for a dance, it sure feels like the biggest thing to happen all year!

Josie thought Matt was super cute, so she and her friends set out to find out more about him only to discover he was a freshman and Josie was a senior. So they were friends, nothing more.

During a point of huge heartbreak for Josie, Matt stepped into her life in a huge way. He was exactly the friend she needed to get through the pain and to find her footing again with life, love, and faith.

After being gone serving a church mission for two years, Matt returned home and the two friends reunited. It didn’t take long before they were completely inseparable. And then engaged!

These two have such a deep history and friendship. I love their story. The love is strong, but what it neat to see is the respect and admiration they have for each other on top of the butterflies. They are completely in love, and it makes my heart happy!

In the winter the sun dips behind the mountain early which gives an incredibly long afterglow of gorgeous, soft, pinkish light. Shooting in the afterglow is one of my favorite times of day to work, but so often I only have 10-15 minutes to work in. Monday however we had a solid 30 minutes of the perfect afterglow light to play in!

Matt and Josie, I can’t wait for your wedding in March! You two are such a sweet couple, and you completely rocked your engagement session. Thank you for trusting me with worrisome weather and for hanging out in the desert with me. You guys are awesome!
