If you’re a bride that is unsure as to how your groom is going to react to this whole “picture” thing, you’re not alone. It is not uncommon to receive messages from brides who are worried that their groom won’t be into it as well as comments from the groom about not liking to take pictures. However, I have awesome news for you…you both are more photogenic than you think! Preparing your groom and yourself is key!
Helping my couples discover their inner model is one of my favorite things! My most common response from my Prickly Pear VIP Brides AND Grooms is “That wasn’t as bad as I thought! It was actually fun! I felt really comfortable”. Boom! Mission accomplished! When the groom says that taking pictures was FUN, I have done my job well!
Your engagement session should be relaxed, fun, and comfortable, not forced and awkward. If your groom is a little unsure, nervous, or tense about the engagement session, preparing your groom with these simple tips can help you both to relax and have fun!
First of all, I strongly encourage you to sit down with your man and show him 2-3 of your favorite engagement sessions that I have photographed (you can find the whole engagement category on the blog by clicking here). Make a date night of it! Grab some treats and your favorite drink (we’d have Root Beer floats here at our house!), and spend some time together scrolling through a few blog posts. This will allow him to gauge what his expectations should be.
Second tip: allow lots of time to get to your shoot! There is nothing worse for a couple than when they show up and have been arguing in the car because they were late! As a result you both will likely be in a bad mood when you’re here to take photos together showing your love. You won’t want to be there, he won’t, and it just won’t be as fun!
Third, and most of all, remember to have patience with him. Don’t assume that he’s not going to have a good time. I think it will surprise you how much you will both enjoy your session!
