The annual Shoot and Share contest is finally wrapping up! It’s a fun, addicting, nail biting, rollercoaster of a contest that, from submissions opening up to the announcement of the winners, lasts nearly three months! This was my third year submitting and I’ve been so unpatiently waiting for the photo placings to be released, and finally they are here! I’m so pleased with how things did in general.
The first year I entered (2016) there were 225,207 photos entered. This year 11,351 photographers from all over the world submitted a total of 413,065 photos!! So competition was fierce!!
Picking photos for the contest is hard! Inevitably shots I expected to do really well were some of my lowest performing entries. But I do see a big theme with which shots of mine did the best! DETAILS! I love detail shots because they are fun, they are an important part of the story, and they are just so pretty!
There was one shot though that I was particularly hopeful for and rooting for extra because of the story behind it! And it was the shot that ranked very highest of my submissions!
This photo of Sharon and Stan came in at 108th place!!!
I just barely missed being in the top 100 with this shot. Now, 108th doesn’t sound like much, but when there were 36,983 shots of the wedding couple submitted, 108th is pretty darn good! That puts the photo in the top 0.29% of all the photos in that category. So I’m pretty darn excited about that!
My other finalist photo was this fun Behind the Scenes shot from a wedding this past summer!
Next up I had 4 photos make it into the top 10% of the photos in their category!
First, this gorgeous birchwood cake by Cakes with TLC!
The pretty donut tower with onsite floral additions by A Floral Note:
Next up I had one photo rank in the top 20%:
And 9 Photos Ranked in the top 30%
The first year I entered, it was a rush, and I did so much better than I’d expected to. The second year I was a little big for my britches and was disappointed when I didn’t have as many photos rank as the first year. So this year I was determined to just have fun with it. I of course hoped things would place well, but I just wanted to have fun. And it was! It so fun to look over the three years of submissions and see friends, memories, growth, triumphs, struggles, and love.
I already have a folder on my computer where I’m stashing away photos when submission open up again in January 2019. It’ll be here before we know it!!
