Our Family Photos by Mikaela Durfee Photography

Guys…I did it again. I failed to blog some amazing photos. Here it is time to think about who I want to have take our family photos this year and I realized I never showed our 2017 Family Photos to you! And I don’t know why?! They are everything I hoped they would be and I’m still just so in love. We have lucked out with the most amazing photography experiences the past few years for our family. Our 2017 shoot with Mikaela Durfee Photography was absolutely perfect!

I’m normally all about dresses for photo sessions, but last year I decided to shake it up and go with more autumn tones an a slightly more casual look…and it was a super fun change (and the colors fit Mikaela’s brand and style so amazingly)! Going into the session I told Mikaela that my goal was to have photos of us interacting and real moments and that I truly didn’t care if we got a shot of all of us looking at the camera. And oh man, did she deliver.

Mikaela captured some of the sweetest shots of my kids and our family…she created treasures for us. The morning of the shoot I had a hairbrained idea to wash the kid’s favorite stuffed animals to bring to the shoot, and I’m so glad I did. Those simple real life props added such a sweet touch!

We love the big golden sycamore leaves in the fall! The kids were in heaven getting to throw them and get all dirty…right at the very beginning of the shoot.  And I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t add in some tips for you, so here you go: Once you get to the photo session, don’t worry too much about the clothes. You’ll get more genuine reactions and have a better family experience if you just let the kids be kids. Some dirt and smooshed leaves aren’t going to ruin your family photo. In fact they make them even better!

And of course we had to recreate “our family pose”. I don’t know if we’ll be able to do that this year…these kid are getting so big!

This next photo just tugs at my heart in every way. This boy of mine is something special, and I love how much he loves his sheep.

Ione at the time was not a hand holder. She would hold a finger…if it was her idea. I love that this little piece of her funny personality is frozen forever for us!

Above and below are my two favorite full family shots to come from the session. And see?! We’re not looking at all (other than Ione in the top one). But I feel like she captured us and the interactions so well. The real smiles on the kids, and the fun we had comes flooding back in memories every time I look at these.

And see? The dirt just made the shot even better!

I loved how much Mikaela took to heart the hope of catching real moments. The next few shots she got are so fun and I have them hanging in our laundry corner. I cherish these just as much as the cute “groomed” photos!

Seriously…I can’t get over how much I love these. I have prints all over my house! The idea of getting updated ones almost breaks my heart because I’m not ready to take these down.

Do you have family portraits lined out for this year?! If not, reach out to your family photographer soon before their slots fill up! I’m releasing my open family dates for sessions here in Payson to my Prickly Pear VIP first and then will open up the unclaimed spots to the public, so stay tuned for those. Or! I know some amazing photographers around and will gladly get you a referral to someone who will take such amazing care of you!

These are seriously SO beautiful Marquette!!! I don’t blame you for not wanting to replace them. That’s how I feel about our current beach photo that is hanging on the living room wall. It’s over a year old and I don’t see myself changing it out anytime soon! But, I do need to get on the ball and arrange for our Christmas card photos at least. Don’t want to leave that till the last minute!

Your family pose is my fave. I don’t know how you’ll do it, but you have to keep recreating this!! Even if it’s just photoshop magic or something! Can you imagine showing the yearly photo at your kiddos weddings one day. And having photos of them when they are like 15, flying through the air? Maybe we use a trampoline and do a composite. Let me think on this some more! 😉

I always planned on there being one key photo from each year that I wouldn’t replace, but this year there are so many I love that are just so perfect that I dont’ want to replace them!

And that would be hilarious to do a composite photo with them big!!
